Sincerely, Cyndars: 6/12/26

Dear Reader,

Well, the last couple of weeks did NOT go to plan. There were heavy winds, lots of rain, vet visits, and the frantic race to the end of the school year. First, I had the best plans to get seeds into the ground, and I did succeed in planting about 50 strawberry roots, pulling weeds, and transplanting several volunteer tomatoes (popping up from last year’s crop), but I did not get anything else planted. I also didn’t get the letter I had intended to write completed. I realized on Saturday afternoon, as I was preparing to attend graduation, that I had totally missed the boat.

Then, this past week, I’ve been logging lots of steps closing up my classrooms, leaving me with very little energy at the end of the day. Combine that with a panicked late-night vet visit, rain, and soreness from the extra moving I’ve been doing, and I haven’t even really looked outside, let alone gone into my garden. Instead, I’ve cut pieces for a sheep quilt for my grandmother’s 90th birthday, played ARK Survival Ascended with my sister, and studiously avoided every actual responsibility I have in hopes they would disappear.

However, the tasks that need done don’t disappear when ignored; they just pile up. The late-night vet visit was caused by foxtails from the cheat grass in the lawn, so I am on a mission to pull weeds and plant seeds for real. By the time you are reading this letter, school will be out for the summer and I will really have no excuses left.

While the berries ripen and the seeds start to open, I’m focusing my attention on the following aspects of creating a home that is as comfortable as Bag End:

Clean and tidy my home.

  1. Make fresh bread and serve it with cheese or butter and jam.
  2. Work on at least one handicraft a day, and display the final project.
  3. Drink a cup of tea from a pretty teacup.

I’ve attached a photo of the plant markers as promised in my last letter, as well as pictures of my latest quilt project. Hopefully, I will have more to share next time.

Sincerely,

Cyndars
