Dear Reader,
Welcome back to a very short letter. Unsurprisingly, the week did not go entirely to plan. I lacked the motivation to go out to pull weeds, so put it off until yesterday. Between yesterday and today, I have mostly finished pulling the weeds in the garden. Today, in an attempt to get a really large weed up (the stem was about an inch in diameter), I broke my hand trowel. I did get the weed pulled up and ordered a replacement trowel that should arrive tomorrow. However, I also need to pull the other weeds in the yard before I get a citation from the city.
There were a few surprises in the garden, though this week. I had despaired of the pepper plant coming up, but they did! The indoor starts, didn’t really take, and so I tried just planting them in the soil directly. After weeks without seeing growth, I noticed them poking up! If it isn’t a pepper plant, I will probably be very sad. I also ordered the pressure canner required to safely process and can the tomato harvest that should start coming in soon.
Additionally, the nasturtiums that have been in the ground for months are also blooming. Their bright orange color was a delightful surprise after just the leaves for so long. The chamomile has also started to come up, looking a little like carrots.
I didn’t get much baking done this week, just a batch of the Chocolate Chip scones, but I am hoping to do some more later on today or tomorrow. I have attached photos of the presumed pepper plant, nasturtiums and baby chamomile as well as the scarlett runner beans and regular green beans. I hope you enjoy them.
Sincerely,
Cyndars
