Week In Gaming

Gwarendes’ Lowlight

Patching Update 29 in LOTRO and having it promptly break the game by only allowing the 32-bit client to be launched. I have been using the 64-bit (beta) to great success, but am now stuck with a game that freezes when I am trying to do a hunter port, making me have to force close the game and relog. Or when I am trying to run from the stablemaster in Estolad Lan on foot to the Remorchant barters. And heaven forbid trying to warsteed. That was my first mistake. All three of these things happened within 40 minutes of each other.

So as much as I am excited about the Wildwood and the Spring Festival, I have nothing to say about them, because I haven’t been able to play since the patch went through.

I try very hard not to go negative here. I have held my tongue after the first round of salt throwing about the scrolls changes, even though it made me give up on playing my alts that I was leveling.

But it breaks my heart that I cannot play the game right now, and I don’t know if I ever will be able to again, since all I hear from anyone at SSG, from Cord on stream to the tickets I submitted, is that they are aware of the problem–with not a word about whether they are working on it.

So I don’t know going forward if I will be continuing with LPN or not. I am looking into a way to use a third-party app to help me play the game, or I can hope that SSG will fix the launcher, but neither of those things have happened yet.

But I want to give a very huge thanks to Tralfazz on the forum, who does so much good work helping people like me out.

Celebathien

  • Bought a big hard drive to go with the memory I got for the computer, finally. ALL HAS BEEN REVEALED. Now running Civ 6, ESO, and very high graphics for LOTRO.
  • Attempted bee business with the Academy. Nngh. When something irritates Pine, it’s probably terrible.
  • Created a Khajit Nightblade on ESO. Still trying to get used to the way the game has you moving and fighting. Lots of stabbing happens as I spam the #1 key (I’m only level 3) and try to avoid dying.
  • Opened the North Ithilien herbalist quests. By apparently doing the entirety of North Ithilien first. Nnngh. Scrolls….

Crister

  • Semi-Wilding in Wildwood – have seen the new cloaks, very nice!  Running the six man festival quest and getting some good gear in Remmorchant.
  • Found one of my favorite glitch helmet moments to share.  This is also the look of smug confidence I give right before I massively fail.
  • I am disappointed to report that Draigoch continues to not be my mount.
  • Harwick update.

Sanswinda

  • Started exploring Wildwood with Cyndars, and even the level 100+ folks we met were pretty nice and not killing everything.
  • My Guardian felt extra squishy trying to protect bees on the field trip.
  • The baby Consulars all got their lightsabers this week, despite having to rely on my laptop’s battery power due to a water spill on/near the powerstrip.
  • Started investigating some missing stars with Gwaerendes and Luinori in ESO.

Teriadwyn

  • Checked out new missions, kind of wish there were more of them to break up the regular missions rounds.
  • Working on leveling a hunter to go into the Wildwood next week with Sans and Pine.
  • Played some more Civ VI, the Roman War Machine is still working for me.
  • Progressed some more in ESO with Teriadwyn, found the mage I was looking for as well as a cursed tavern.
  • New baby Templar is a lot of fun. Also logged in my werewolf Warden for the first time since the update and was very tempted to stab Abnur Tharn.

Pineleaf

  • On Crickhollow, I started the region with my mid-40’s warden. There I learned that the Wildwood is a wonderful place to farm pages. I also learned that missions are listed in the skirmish stats area.
  • My Anor warden finished the Minas Tirith epic and laughed at the tavern keeper of the Laughing Halfling.
  • On Landroval, started a new character to see if I can reach level 40 by Tuesday. While running Book 1, I visited Tom and found that Tom now has a new voice. I also learned that the normally non-aggressive crawlers will attack Lalia on sight.
