Dear Reader,
Hello, again! Thank you for your patience with me as I missed last week’s letter. I might have lost track of where I was at in the week, and Friday blew right past me. The last two weeks, I spent time preparing my home for company, and I have had the opportunity to host both overnight guests and friends for coffee. I’ve also spent some time sewing and working on different projects for family.
My father and I finished rebuilding the full-size bed frame that is now in my guest room. As we worked on it, I learned more about the bed from my mother and my grandmother. It had originally belonged to my great-great-grandmother and had been passed down until it reached my parents and the side rail broke. The hardware was still good, so I wiped down the frame, and Dad and I cut new side rails and added the hardware to them. My mother nearly cried when she saw the bed was usable again. It still needs a coat of stain on the side rails, and should probably be refinished, but I like the character of the bed the way that it is now.
I also spent some time quilting for my grandmother. She just celebrated her 90th birthday, and we attended her party. I spent roughly two days working on a quilt for her with fabric that reminded me of a picnic blanket. My mother laughed when I told her because she remembers that my grandma always wanted to go on picnics. Grandpa, having been out logging all day, was less than enthused, but would humor her. Mom said it was a perfect choice, and Grandma loved it. We did agree that it probably shouldn’t go to the county fair because straight lines are not my forte.
This week, I am planning to spend some time working in my garden again before the weeds fully overtake the plot. I noticed some of the salad greens I’d planted are starting to come up, and I’ll be playing “is it a weed or salad” as I go. I’m also hoping to do some sewing and baking as I prepare to host a two-year-old’s first tea party. And, my dad and I are going to go to the local fruit packing plants to see about getting some apricots. The mild winter seems to have affected their output, but I’d like to get some canned and set away for baking later on.
I’m attaching pictures of the guest room (with the finished bed frame), some photos of the quilt as it progressed, and a few photos from this morning’s coffee time with my friend. Next week, you’ll want to watch for photos of the weeded garden and treats for the tea party. Until then, I hope you all have a lovely week.
Sincerely,
Cyndars
