Resetting an instance

Need to redo an instance for deeds or something bugged out? There are two ways to reset an instance solo or without disbanding

  1. Change the format of the instance so that lotro thinks it needs to be a new version by
    • Change the level if possible in any of the scaled instances
    • Change the tier if possible of the instance if you can kill
  2. Create a different instance and have 1 player (yourself) enter it. Leave the instance and then create the instance you wanted reset. Needed for fixed level instances such as carn dum or Tower of orthanc. This will use up 1 of your 10 instance per hour limit (see later)

If all above fails you can disband your group and have someone else be the group leader to create the same instance again. If the entire group was disbanded this tricks lotro into making a fresh instance.

Can’t launch in private encounter

You can’t seem to enter an instance? You’re in between the previous instance and the public world. Either by design or server fubar. These days if you leave an instance or mission such as Annak-Kurrfu, Bree or Echad Uial it can take a few minutes until SSG decides to update some servers.

A different problem is that you’re really in a private encounter. If you are in a housing area such as your kinhouse the game counts you as in an instance. The Beorning house counts as a private encounter as well.

Instance lock (10/100)

Can’t launch an instance and not sure why? You’ll have a pop-up with “Instance locked”. You as a group leader has started 10 instances in the last hour. A hard limit by SSG that’s not likely to be lifted anytime soon. Before Update 28 this was only an issue with heave farming, but missions and bounties only take a few minutes will get you into this problem.

You can circumvent this by changing the group leader and have the other person start the instance.

There is one extra limit ingame you hopefully won’t encounter. 100 instances per day. If you reach this you won’t be allowed to create any new instance for the next 24 hours on that character.
