Skirmish Event

February 7th brings a new event: ‘Ill Omens’ to Skirmishes throughout the game! Evil stirs in Minas Morgul, and harbingers of the Dead City spread across Middle-earth! This time-limited event adds additional enemies and rewards to all Skirmishes in Lord of the Rings Online through March 11th. By completing a specific set of themed Skirmishes each day while the ‘Ill Omens’ event is active, you’ll earn a special currency you can exchange for new gear and cosmetic rewards. As for the most dedicated Skirmishers of Middle-earth, players who complete thirty of these quests will earn a powerful level-cap-statted reward.

Short view

I’d expect this to take a page from the Summer and yule festival instances. I hope we get more details as we get closer to the event. What level ranges? How many skirmishes per quest. Is the loot level for max level skirmishes fixed? Is this a preview event for Minas Morgul or is it separate?

In the meantime, level up your skirmish soldier and browse https://lotroplayers.com/category/theacademy/skirmishes/skirmish-guides/ for detailed guides (some are missing, author has been contacted) or https://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Skirmish

Tier 3 of Anvil raid released and new lootbox content

A few days later the new tier 3 of the U23 raid will be open to all daring to enter. With it the “best gear level” will be open as well and with it next best gear will be higher as well in the lootboxes.

Tier 3 Difficulty will soon be available for the Anvil of Winterstith raid! Tier 3 of the raid will unlock at 10:00 AM Eastern (-5 GMT) on Thursday, February 7th. The Lead the Charge Deed is now available for Tier 3. Both the Tier 2 and Tier 3 deeds will be available through March 6th, 2019.

Of Special Note: The Anvil of Winterstith Tier 3 Difficulty

Minstrel (and bear) healing and burglar damage

The second round of healing and minstrel updates made it into this patch. For each skill and change check out the patch notes linked above. But overall the changes are

  • Many Minstrel skills and effects that had not been previously normalized have been updated. This should result in a more even experience as you level.
  • Bigger heals for minstrel while most skills have a longer cooldown.
  • Reduced animation times and more damage from smaller damage skills such as ballads.
  • Beornings healing from Encouraging roar and its set bonuses have been reduced.
  • Burglar skill do more damage. While individual skill changes are planned for a future patch.

The quick bits

Featured instances have been hit with the not-intended-to-farm swat by SSG. For the rewards the you will now have to be within 8 levels of the instance level itself. No more easy Empowerment scrolls from a level 100 run. Expected change, but again without providing an alternative. Bad SSG

Two new settings introduced regarding texture loading and caching. Use more memory to shorten loading times or remove textures to use less memory. Options are good. And with memory loading being a major cause for crashes. It could be used to combat this. Does it? No idea yet.

Minstrels jazz hands now get their own instruments in a known issue with the minstrel animations being shortened.
