Monster or Madness quest

A few weeks ago, I was questing in NW Broadacres (one of the Helm’s Deep zones.) One of the NPC’s, Herehasen, gave me a quest called Monster or Madness. The premise is that he’s seen some massive creatures in the area but no one believes him. The quest says they recommend doing the quest in a raid. I figured I’d never get a chance to get into a raid that will do this quest so just kept it in my quest log for a rainy day.

A little after I got to level 95, I decided to check this quest out. See what kind of creatures they are. Boy are they big!

Guardian of the Shrine: a beautiful sabre cat ( he probably looks even better on higher resolution computers.) He’s located just North of the North of the Woodhurst Mead Hall. He’s up in the mountains so he’s a bit trick to find. He has 795k morale.

To see what would happen and see how big he was, I sent my herald after him. And man is he huge! I quick ran out of that area.

I re-traited for Leader of Men (Tanking line) and attempted to fight him expecting a quick failure. There’s no other mobs close by to interrupt the fight. About 20 minutes later, I was able to defeat him. I was shocked!!

Fastitocalon: a massive turtle East of Baconworth…I mean Beaconworth. Apparently, Hobbit’s have a popular poem called “Fastitocalon” which tells of an enormous “turtle-fish” mistaken for an island by unwary seafarers. He’s a level 89 turtle that’s is just shy of 2.5 million morale!

I traited Leader of Men and went into the fight expecting an absolute failure. The fight ended up lasting 50 minutes and went way better than I expected. I used 3 morale potions and 15 power potions.

Herehasen’s Dragon: he’s a worm like Dragon that’s West of Grimslade. He’s a big Dragon with 787k morale.

I knew the only trouble I probably would have with him is the wandering orcs near by. So I backed up on a hill to the side of him and started the fight. Took about as long as the Sabre Cat.

Each of these creatures have a bad bleed that lasts 20-30 seconds. The rewards are not the best for level 95.

Overall, it was a fun adventure. I wanted to started testing the survivability of the captain and did really well in my opinion.

I’m curious about whether your captain was fully geared up yet? This is impressive, at least to my still-at-85 captain.

Not yet. I have one level 95 guild crafted bracket. Everything else is quest rewards or dropped from mobs.

  3. I completed the quest during the first week the expansion was active. We had a group of 6 players of various levels (think the highest was like lvl 92). Overall was a fun quest to do once but the rewards don’t match up for investment in time. But again I definitely recommend completing it at least one time.

Me and a fellow kinmate happened upon a lone character taking on the turtle, and we joined in. Still took a good 5 minutes. But it was the initial sight of his size…out there in the landscape, that took me by surprise. Fun stuff.

Am I the only one who thinks that the NPC’s name is an homage to the late great Ray Harryhausen?

  6. Are these the rumoured return of the Rare Elites?

    If so want more 🙂
