The Lord of the Rings: Living Card Game Heading To Steam

Fantasy Flight Interactive has announced plans to produce a digital version of Fantasy Flight Games’ Living Card Game The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game on the Steam platform for PC next year as its first release.

The digital adaptation will use the same mechanics and cards as the tabletop version, with players forming teams of heroes and attempting to complete adventures set in the iconic fantasy world created by J.R.R. Tolkien. To play, players must construct a digital “deck” of cards depicting allies, events, and equipment cards that they can use during the game.

The initial release will only offer solitaire play and will launch as part of Steam’s Early Access program. Later in the year, the full free-to-play version will follow on Steam and will be expanded with support for cooperative two-player play.

This will be the first game from Fantasy Flight that does not require you to own/use the board game version, with the app. The new Lord of the Rings game will instead be a stand-alone experience that does not require or interact with the regular card game. In this way, Fantasy Flight is joining a growing trend in the industry for digital versions of popular hobby games.

Players in the digital implementation will still control three heroes with 30 card decks based on the four influence spheres – Leadership, Tactics, Spirit, and Lore.

The digital implementation of the game removes much of the maintenance work that players had to manage in the original version. In the new iteration of the game players focus on the Planning and Adventuring phases. The AI will handle playing cards from Sauron’s deck and the responsibilities enemies have in engaging heroes. Players will now get to focus on their own choices rather than game maintenance.

Each scenario includes instructions on win conditions, while all scenarios are lost if the three heroes die or the ever increasing threat level reaches the maximum.

You can wishlist the game on your steam now account HERE,  After release players  can purchase on the Founder’s Packs to access the full game experience. Founder’s Packs will include additional content, in game currency, and more.

This is will be the first release from the newly formed “Fantasy Flight Interactive

Middle-earth: Shadow of War Pays Homage To Late Developer

One of the things that stand out to most people about Tolkien’s world of Middle-earth has many recognizable characters. But one character that won’t be found in any Lord of the Rings lore is Forthog Orc-slayer. He will be found in the upcoming Middle-earth: Shadow of War as a tribute to executive producer Michael Forgey, who passed away from cancer earlier in the game’s development.

Developer Monolith and publisher Warner Bros. Interactive felt the loss of their friend Forgey’s death, and the two teams wanted to do something to remember him.

“Mike was larger than life, Mike was an incredible inspiration to our team. He was our front man in many respects. Everybody loved Mike.” Monolith boss Kevin Stephens

Forthog will appear as a “mysterious savior” in game, likely to appear when heroes are in trouble. The end of the trailer we see Forthog charging into a group of orcs, and then the scene is obscured by a blizzard.

“He’s going to the Undying Lands, He’s embracing that.” art director Phil Straub

The DLC will be available on October 10, the same day Middle-earth: Shadow of War releases on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. It will cost $4.99, but Warner Bros. said it will donate $3.50 of each purchase through December 31 to Forgey’s wife and three children. *USA ONLY – (exc. AL, HI, IL, MA, MS, SC) Void where prohibited. Purchase is not tax deductible. *

The DLC is already available for pre-order on Steam.

Pretty much just hits right in the old feels, don’t it?

Monolith Studios have released a new trailer video for Middle-earth: Shadow Of War, this time focusing on our friends the Orcs, We get to see inside the mind of the Orc, and what they remember.

Rather than just being potential enemies, the Orcs, uruks, and trolls of Shadow of War can join Talion’s Warband. If you spare a particularly strong troll or save the life of a talented orc archer, they’ll abandon their previous tribe and rally behind the Bright Lord. Though you might run into trolls who escaped the fight with an eye missing, uruks who managed to take down Talion in a skirmish, and ambitious orcs with something to prove. Just as you build an inner circle, you can bet there is a group of disgruntled orcs ready to take revenge for the time you left them for dead. Everyone remembers everything. Keep that in mind.

Middle-earth Shadow Of War Mobile Coming This Fall

Warner Bros announced today that it’s bringing Middle-Earth: Shadow of War, a free-to-play real-time RPG, to mobile this fall. The game will follow the adventures of Talion (the hero of Shadow of Mordor PC game) through Mordor, and will feature all kinds of familiar characters from both the last PC game and, of course, The Lord of the Rings. Expect to see Celebrimbor, Eltariel, Gimli, Boromir , and more.

IUGO Mobile Entertainment is developing Shadow of War for mobile. The studio has experience turning popular brands into mobile RPGs with The Walking Dead: Road to Survival, which has made over $168 million from in-app purchases. The series’ famed Nemesis system will still be a part of the mobile game, so you can still create your own orc army while running into enemies that remember your past encounters.

You can pre-register starting right now, and if you do, you will receive an exclusive character bundle featuring Ratbag and an Orc starter army. If you pre-register for Android, you’ll get a version of Shelob in her fair form character, playable for the first time.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War Shelob Makes Her Debut

San Diego Comic-Con is in full swing, and with that comes all the panels, and the news that comes with them.  Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Monolith Productions have released a new trailer for the upcoming Middle-earth: Shadow of War online revealing that the infamous spider Shelob will appear in the game.

Developed by Monolith Productions, Middle-earth: Shadow of War features an original story with the return of Talion and Celebrimbor, who must go behind enemy lines to forge an army and turn all of Mordor against the Dark Lord, Sauron. Players wield a new Ring of Power and confront the deadliest of enemies, including Sauron and his Nazgul, in a monumental battle for Middle-earth. The open-world action-adventure game is brought to life through the expansion of the award-winning Nemesis System. The robust personalization from the first game is now applied to the entire world where the environments and characters are all shaped by player actions and decisions, creating a personal world unique to every gameplay experience.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War was recently delayed from an August 22 release date to an October 10 release date. It will be available for Xbox One, PC and PlayStation 4 upon release.
