The War of the Rohirrim: A New Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game Box Set

Games Workshop has unveiled the highly anticipated starter set for the new edition of the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game. This popular wargame, based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s iconic Middle-earth universe, is set to receive a fresh update.

The new box set, titled “The War of the Rohirrim – Battle of Edoras,” pits the noble horsemen of Rohan against the marauding Dunlending hill tribes. This epic clash ties in with an upcoming new Lord of the Rings anime series.

For those unfamiliar with the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game, it’s a miniature wargame similar to Warhammer. Players use models based on the characters from the Peter Jackson films or original designs approved by the Tolkien estate. This game has been around under various names since 2001, and Games Workshop recently announced the release of a new edition.

The “The War of the Rohirrim – Battle of Edoras” box set contains an impressive array of miniatures:

Rohan: Haleth, Prince of Rohan (mounted and on foot), Háma, Prince of Rohan (mounted and on foot), 24 Warriors of Rohan
Dunlendings: Wulf, leader of the Dunlendings (mounted and on foot), General Targg (mounted and on foot), 24 Hill Tribesmen

In addition to the miniatures, the box includes a 176-page rules manual, a 48-page booklet with unit profiles and scenarios, 2 plastic model Rohan Houses, dice, a themed range ruler, a double-sided play mat, and a quick reference guide.

This new starter set offers fans of the Lord of the Rings universe a thrilling opportunity to recreate iconic battles and create their own epic adventures in Middle-earth.

The Lord Of The Rings: Adventure To Mount Doom Board Game Coming From Kosmos

Kosmos revealed The Lord of the Rings: Adventure to Mount Doom, a new cooperative roll-and-move board game, for release into retail in Q2 2023.

Players head off on Frodo’s quest to destroy the One Ring in the fiery belly of Mount Doom. The players assume the roles of the Fellowship and move each individual member across the landscape of Middle-earth on the board. They will travel through many famous middle-earth landmarks, from the J.R.R. Tolkien lore on this quest, carefully avoiding the Nazgul.

The movement of the characters is determined by colored dice that represent the number of spaces each character can travel on a turn. The black dice trigger threats and encounters to occur, which are displayed on Encounter cards. If the players manage to get to Mount Doom, they win the game.

This game is for one to four players, ages 10 and up, and plays in around 50 minutes. It will retail for $49.95.
