Amazon made the announcement while also releasing the first official trailer from the series. The new series will premiere on Amazon Prime on Sept. 2, 2022.

The Rings of Power unites all the major stories of Middle-earth’s Second Age: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic tale of Númenor, and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men, Until now, audiences have only seen on-screen the story of the One Ring—but before there was one, there were many … and we’re excited to share the epic story of them all.” showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay

The series is a prequel to The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Peter Jackson’s LOTR and Hobbit films take place in the 3rd age of Middle Earth whereas Amazon’s LOTR series will take place in the 2nd age. It is a project which is envisioned to last up to 5 seasons and 2 seasons are already confirmed by Amazon.

The production of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 1 has been wrapped, and it is in the post-production stage.

Season 2 of the series is already confirmed by Amazon as well. The production for the same will begin sometime in June or July this year.

So, we’ll be traveling to the world of J.R.R. Tolkien a lot in the coming few years.

Amazon lotr mmo dates

An often asked question regarding lotro is. But what about that amazon lotr mmo? Most would assume that a game in whatever state of form it will launch is still a long time away. They were correct.

Short history

Athlon Games is the developer of the mmo. This new game developer is part of Leyou publisher. This company cooperates with Amazon in developing the mmo. Leyou recently got acquired by Tencent from where the original 2019 game license agreement was released. Which also hold some spicy 12-20% royalties and third party (Amazon) revenue limits

Dates

From a related dutch news article and the agreement itself it can be seen that June 2021 a working game prototype needs to be ready with a closed beta in septembre 2022. A Open beta 4 months later. An exact PC launch date isn’t added, but both the Xbox and PS4 version need to be running within 12 months. Making the game expected launch date (as agreed/expected in 2019) somewhere between March 2023 and December 2023

There is more to find in the agreement, but a lot of it is technical and legal mumbo jumbo.

Amazon’s Lord Of The Rings Series To Be Set In The Second Age

Amazon has been very tight lipped about there upcoming LOTR themed series, even going so far as locking writers in a room, with armed guards standing outside, I’m not kidding about that.

We finally got some small details about Amazon’s project based on The Lord of the Rings. One of the biggest question surrounding this series has been when in the history of Middle-earth it would be set. There were people that were hoping for the 1rst age, there were people that wanted the 2nd age, well, we know now which group is going to be happy. The 2nd age is coming.

The Second Age covers a time period of 3,441 years. During this time, Sauron forged the Ring Of Power, with the Second Age coming to an end following his defeat at the hands of the King of Gonder, Isildur.

This opens up a lot of stories for them to tell over the course of the series. Amazon also has a new website set up for the series, there is nothing there right now, but a nice map that you can explore.

Still no date for when we can watch this on Amazon Prime. But we will be sure to let you know!

Lord Of The Rings TV Show Officially Coming To Amazon Prime

We told you that Amazon wanted a LOTR TV Show, and Amazon always gets what it wants.

Amazon has officially given the green light Variety reports, to a new small screen series based on J.R.R. Tolkien‘s The Lord of the Rings. The new program will set its story before the events of The Fellowship of the Ring, taking viewers on Middle-earth adventures not yet seen on the TV screen.

The deal also includes a potential additional spin-off series. The series will be produced by Amazon Studios in cooperation with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins and New Line Cinema, a division of Warner Bros. Entertainment.

“’The Lord of the Rings’ is a cultural phenomenon that has captured the imagination of generations of fans through literature and the big screen, We are honored to be working with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins and New Line on this exciting collaboration for television and are thrilled to be taking ‘The Lord of the Rings’ fans on a new epic journey in Middle Earth.” Sharon Tal Yguado, head of scripted series for Amazon Studios.

With the success of Game Of Thrones, this seemed like a no brainier that someone would attempt that type of epic set in the LOTR universe.
