Crowds gathered at the Hobnanigan Fields north of Bree on Tuesday to watch the first Evernight Sparring Tournament, with Ecthalmir the Champion declared the winner after a day of fierce combat.
The event, organised by Vingorn of the Evernight server, saw six participants chasing the 150 Gold prize that was on offer. Early polling predicted the burglar or warden classes to be the favourites going into the competition.
Competition was close after four rounds of sparring across 12 individual battles, with a tie-breaker being required to determine the winners:
A record number of players gathered on Evernight on Saturday to welcome those transferring to the server as part of Turbine’s world consolidation.
Around 200 characters gathered by the West Gate of Bree in an event organised by the Evernight Facebook Group, far surpassing the record set when the group met in January 2014 to celebrate their 200th member.
The event featured dancing, music, emotes, and even a baby Ent. After gathering for a server photo, players mounted their steeds and rode as a group toward The Shire, showing off their favourite cosmetics and horses.
Prominent community member Hannihr compiled a video of the event for those unable to attend.
Player feedback from the event was overwhelmingly positive. “Great gathering,” players commented. “Was great to see so many people show up.”
According to organisers, future events on the Evernight server are planned for the coming months.
Additional photos from the record breaking gathering can be found on the Evernight Facebook Group.
This Saturday, players on Evernight (EU) will gather by the West Gate of Bree for a server-wide gathering and photo opportunity.
Gathering from 6pm UK time on Saturday 15 August, players will come together to celebrate the Evernight Facebook Group passing 1,000 members, and be looking to beat the record set when the group gathered in January 2014 to celebrate their 200th member.
According to organiser Gastón, getting everyone together and into position will be a big undertaking.
“We are going to start gathering people at that time [6pm]. So probably the picture is going to be taken at 6:30 – 7 PM.”
Photos from the event will be uploaded to the Evernight Facebook Group for those unable to attend.
Evernight is one of only two English speaking EU servers scheduled to remain online as part of Turbine’s planned server consolidation. The server has seen a large influx of new members since the list of worlds scheduled to close was announced last Monday.
To assist new players coming over to their server, Evernight is currently running a competition to give a helping hand to those whose server will closing at the end of the year.Entry is simple, according to the Evernight Report who are hosting the event. “Take a screenshot of your newly transferred character next to Bilbo Baggins doing a /kneel emote towards him, then upload the screenshot to the thread on the Evernight Facebook Group.”
The winner will receive:
-100 Gold;
-an appearance on The Evernight Report; and
-a cosmetic prize of their choosing. The competition closes Wednesday 12 August. As not all servers will have free transfers turned on by this time, the competition would best suit someone who is checking out Evernight to decide if it is the best fit for them. Current Evernight players are ineligible to enter.
Hannihr, the editor of the Evernight Report, explains the server’s special connection to Bilbo. “Evernight is named after a dark, shadow-filled region in the Great Sea that appears in one of Bilbo’s songs called Song of Eärendil.”
Evernight players assemble outside Bree for a server event.
This morning, Turbine named the 19 servers that would be closing as part of the forthcoming server consolidation. Evernight was one of only five European servers selected to stay online.
On behalf of the players of Evernight, I would personally like to extend an invitation to any EU players on a sunsetting server to come and join us.
Evernight is a melting pot of players. While it may have started off as a Codemasters operated European server, in 2011 Evernight was relocated to the US. As a result, the server is home to players from the across the world, including Europe, the US, and even Oceania. You can often witness different languages being spoken in World Chat, including from a few Russian players who joined when their servers closed. If you’re looking to meet new people from the other side of the globe, Evernight is the place for you!
Another thing to be aware of is that Evernight will soon be the only English-speaking EU server that won’t be bound by Turbines roleplaying rules.
Evernight hosts a variety of grouping opportunities. While Sambrog and Pelargir are current favourites, the multi-timezone nature of Evernight means that people are online at any time of the day, making it simple to group up when it suits you. The server is home to kinships big and small, with some of the most active including the Fellowship of the Guardians and Evernight’s Legends.
There is a fantastic community on Evernight, due in part to the Evernight Facebook Group, which allows players to discuss LOTRO and plan server-wide events. If you’re interested in coming over to Evernight, check out the group to see if the server feels would be a good fit for you.
Evernight is also lucky enough to be one of the few servers to have it’s own newspaper – the Evernight Report. Hannihr does a fantastic job engaging with the community and keeping up to date with news and events across the server.
Finally, Evernight has room to grow. The server’s music and PVMP communities are not quite as active on other servers, and there is certainly a market to be filled. If either of these aspects of the game interest you, Evernight would love to have you join us and bring some new energy to the server.
Is anyone considering making the move to Evernight, and if so, is there any questions you’d like answered about the server?
