Lilikate’s Creatures – Overhill

Hello Everyone,

This Overhill scene may look idyllic but there have been some funny goings-on in the woods recently. Lilikate (That’s me) went to have a word with local residents to discover what all the talk was about.

Everard Holebourne was the first Hobbit I spoke too on my arrival and he informed me there was rumour of a nasty monster in the Bindbole woods.

“That’s not news!” I said

“But this monster is bigger and scarier than all the other creepies” Everard told me.  He suggested I speak with other Overhill Folk, as some of those had seen this monster.  So off I went along the path to chat some more.

Otho Broadbelt was the next Hobbit I met. “I saw the monster!” was the first thing he told me, when he spied my Bow.

“You look like the type that can deal with outsiders of this sort Lilikate”

“What did it look like?” I inquired.

“It was tall, and had orangy/yellow fur all over it! I was scared out of my wits, I didn’t hang about for a second look – Looked like one of those big monsters out of the northern bad-red lands it did!”.

Postman Boffin and Hart Holeman told me they hadn’t seen anything but had heard roars in the forest that gave them the shivers! “Talk to Crocus, she saw it!”

I promised to help Posty Boffin with a letter run later.

“I saw the monster Lilikate! It had a big black thing on it’s head and was trying to eat me! I am not stepping foot out of this Village again!”

“I thought it looked like one of those ‘bominable snowmens from the cold places”.  Crocus continued for quite some time to tell me how frayed her nerves were.

It was a while before I could excuse myself with a promise to gather wood for her Work Orders.

I wondered if there were any sensible Hobbits in this village.

I discovered this  adorable pair.  I decided not to interrupt such a special moment. Best wishes to Ardo and Inula – So sweet to see young love blooming.

The Frog told me he read all about it in the Bramblebury Gazette.

Gammer Boffin, the most sensible of Hobbits thought the news of a monster in the forest to be a load of rubbish!

“There isn’t a monster in the forest, just a few Goblins, Spiders and a walking Tree. As you know too well Lilikate!”

“I have a nice ointment recipe for silly Hobbits that spread nonsense.  If you’d fetch me some slug slime and spider goolies I could make up a batch!”.  After giving my Gammer a warm hug, I went off into the trees to take a look for myself.

It’s in here somewhere! Can you spot the monster?

That’s what one Hobbit would like you to think!

Can anybody spot the Monster and tell me what it is?

Is it that grizzly bear on the far left? I suppose if one of those was standing on its hind legs, it could scare even the most stout-hearted hobbits!

So only Andang got it! I thought it would be more obvious!

Lilikate dressed as Tinki and hid in the Bindbole Woods spooking the locals. This tale picks up as she wanders into the village to see all the commotion she has caused in “Happy Elf Joke Day”.

Only my Gammer, Gammer Boffin was smart enough to know it was me 🙂 The ointment offered was her way of telling me to behave myself.

In the picture below Gammer Boffin, to the right and bottom of the screen shot you can see a tiny “Tinki” figure hiding in the ferns!

I enjoyed this so much I will be doing a regular “Wheres Tinki?” series. Beginning next week.
