My every waking moment brings
Me closer to the Ruling Rings!
The Rings of power! How sublime
Were Sauron’s works! How, for all time
He made a secret Trojan Horse
Inside the other rings, to force
Them to serve Sauron from the hour
He donned his Ruling Ring of Power!
I daily seek the Ruling Ring!
I must know more! I am finding
Out how to smith one for myself.
To this end I commit my wealth,
My talent, knowledge to acquire
A Ruling Ring! I do aspire
To wield its power – all for good
Of course, as wisest rulers should –
To help the hapless tribes of men
Gain peace and order. Now again
The Ring – so rumours speak – to light
Has come. Yet, do I hear aright?
Gandalf has hidden it? I say
To me he’ll tell his secret. Yea –
But how to force what Gandalf knows?
Although my unique power grows
Grey Gandalf is a wizard still –
He’s no weakling. I fear he will
Make trouble. How can I convince
Him to confide? I shall evince
Good arguments. Well, I shall try.
I see Brown Radagast nearby –
My errand Radagast shall run:
To bring Gandalf to Saruman.
Then – we shall see!
The wizard laughed
At his deceitful, wily craft.
