New Player Question

(comment on last week’s LPN by Kalbradi)

I got another question this week that I hope will be seen in time for next week’s show. Is it worth my time to make separate trait builds for soloing content and for grouping up? If not then what do you do to balance your characters for the two forms of play?

Week In LOTRO

Aerindys

  • My main champ made it to the Moria skirmishes and Pineleaf graciously ran through them with me so I wouldn’t epically fail them.
  • I MADE IT TO LEVEL 60 AND INTO LOTHLORIEN! I was so excited until… they sent me back into Moria! (facepalm)
  • I ran two of the Moria skirmishes again with Pine and Sans as part of the Skirmish Event

Teriadwyn

  • Teriadwyn did yet more skirmishes, but still has not finished the wrapper quest of 12 days. She did get a star-lit crystal, though!
  • Saryssa received some handcrafted LIs from Chromite’s alts: the dagger is For Stabbing Barefoot Elves, and the tools are made from Artisinally Flayed Elf Skin.

Sanswinda

  • Reached level 49 on Anor.
  • Made an attempt to defeat the first boss of the Anvil raid with PLOI.
  • Skirmished a few times and ran out of marks leveling skirmish soldiers again.

Pineleaf

  • My warden on Crickhollow completed the quest to complete 12 assaults plus ot deed to kill each of the 18 harbingers.
  • My warden on Landroval completed the quest to complete 12 sets during Friday Night Fights. This included a 25-minute Survival run (albeit a couple levels below the group).
  • On Anor, I continued questing in Evendim and started in the Trollshaws.

As a “new” player, is there a server you recommend I start on? I have played on and off for 6 years now, and finally found the time and desire to take the plunge into serious play. I am currently unable to afford a subscription however so the legendary servers are out of the question. Also Is it worth my time to make a separate trait builds for soloing content and for grouping up? If not then what do you do to balance your characters for the two forms of play?

  1. I noted your impression of the ironfold crafting was underwhelming. I tend to agree as someone who doesn’t raid. The time spent for my main will result in little improvement. I do think that where I have a character around they just left Mordor, that I think the effort might be worth it for some of the gear. If he progresses too far (around Erebor), the drops would again do well enough.

Ironic that I was thinking I’d ask you how to make the best use of the embers from the Skarnhald vendors (because I couldn’t get it to add up).

Anyway, I’ll dutifully grind out some stuff for my capped characters further back I. The story, believing it’ll make some difference beyond gathering crafting mats!

    Thanks,
    Ozif / Landroval
