From what I recall, LOTR was split into 3 books because of a post war paper shortage. Will there be an armchair designer segment for Moria?
The Lord of the Rings was split into 3 volumes, not books as it is six books, for one primary reason in 1954. This was because UK libraries, which the publisher thought would be a big buyer, would only pay one guinea for the book, which was 21shillings in the UK pre-decimal currency. The book would have cost three guineas or 63 shillings if produced in one volume, so was split into three to be available for libraries to purchase.
