The benefits of being part of a kinship are great. I started playing LOTRO at the end of 2013 and looking back wish I had found a kinship to join from the beginning. I made my way through Middle-Earth without any guidance on how to play, or where some of the best places to go were. I didn’t play a lot and was afraid to ask questions.
At the end of 2013 and then again in 2014 I took a class on Coursera called Online Games: Literature, New Media, and Narrative and joined a kinship on the Meneldor server. The Eagles of Thorondor kinship members are great. The more experienced players take the time to help out new members level up and learn their way around Middle-Earth. The leaders organize events that bring members together that might not otherwise ask for help that they might need when doing a quest.
To me kinships benefit new players more than they might realize. Being part of one makes the game more fun to play. Not that it’s not fun already because it is. The members make it easier for a new player to ask questions about quests and other things in the game they might not understand.
In the end, after joining the kinship I started playing a lot more and now help new players learn their way around.
