Another Round of Turbine Layoffs

WarnerBros. has issued the following statement:

As part of our normal business process, we’re routinely looking at the strategic alignment of our company. Unfortunately, in order for us to invest in growth areas at Turbine, we have to eliminate some positions.
These are always tough decisions, which we don’t approach lightly, but it’s crucial that Turbine is structured in a way that reflects the current and coming marketplace.

At this time it is currently unclear what games this round of layoffs will effect and how many it will effect. Infinite Crisis had a very large update last month, which makes me think that is the team that is being most effected by these layoffs. Based on Turbine/WB’s track record for these sorts of layoffs, I doubt we will get any more information than the above statement.

Our thoughts go out to those at Turbine who now find themselves looking for new jobs. We wish you all the best.

  1. Edit: “effected” should be “affected”.

Apparently Produktion Malphunktion is gone. Wave goodbye to communication from Turbine until they find someone else who’s actually willing to talk to the community.

    • I am really hoping that is not true…he just arrived and from the outside seamed to be doing a great job…

  3. Isn’t that the exact same corporate-speak phrasing they used last time?

I guess they’ve got some boilerplate they cut and paste whenever they fire people.

If I had to venture a guess I would say that it’s probably a large layoff for the IC crew. IC will probably never see a launch date and should probably be scrapped. It’s been in beta for so long I’m starting to believe it was intended to be an atari game that spent 30+ yrs in development hell. They don’t need to launch the game because A) The cash shop works, the cash shop should never work during beta. B)As long as it stays in beta they do not have to be accountable for screw ups. That disclaimer “This is beta anything you see is subject to change without notice” It’s a safety net that brings in money. They must be selling something over there.
