Hello LOTRO Players,
I would like to inform everyone of two large events. One taking place this upcoming Saturday and the other on October 4th.
The Storyteller’s Festival
3,000 Turbine Points for first place in each category.
1,500 TP for second place and 1,000 TP for third place.
The Storytellers Festival is a charity event run by the folks at Windy acres ranch. From 3.30pm ST there will be an opening concert by the spectacular full raid musical group The Starlight Orchestra.
Here again is the poster and full details concerning the Storytellers Festival:
Saturday, September 13th at 4:00pm EDT/servertime
Windy Acres Ranch, Raglan, Bree-land Homesteads
A Storyteller’s Festival is being held at Windy Acres Ranch – 9 Chestnut Street, Raglan, Bree-land homesteads on Landroval. Artists can compete for the Best Poem, Best Ballad, or Best Spooky Story. The audience votes for the winners. Turbine Points will be awarded to the top three winners in each category. We will also be raising money to support Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.
About This Event:
Poets, bards, and musicians are invited to gather at Windy Acres Ranch for a festival celebrating the art of storytelling. Meet at 9 Chestnut Street in Raglan, Bree-land homesteads for a social gathering with fine wine, good ale, and excellent pipe-weed. Once everyone has gathered, competitors will make their way out into the neighborhood, finding the perfect location to present their creative work to the audience. The theme is Autumn — fiery landscapes, falling leaves, and long shadows. The audience will travel through the neighborhood as a group, stopping to hear each performance. Awards will be given for the best presentation in three categories — Best Poem, Best Ballad, and Best Spooky Tale. The audience will vote for the winners in a very special way.
“Saruman believes it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. I found it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love.”
– Gandalf
We are asking everyone to help raise money for Extra Life, a charity that supports Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. We will be asking you to donate through Rick Heaton’s (aka Sapience) drive as a way of saying “Thanks!” for all of his amazing community support. Everyone who donates $25 or more will receive special prizes from Turbine after the drive is over. If enough money is raised, we will all receive exclusive in-game pets!
The event begins at Windy Acres Ranch (9 Chestnut Street, Raglan). After introductions, we will travel through the neighborhood as a group and stop to listen to each artist. After we hear each of them, we’ll return to the ranch, count the votes, and announce the winners. Finally, we’ll have an open mic stage where everyone can perform their favorite stories and songs.
How To Vote For The Winners:
Vote for your favorite artist by telling the host (Kiralynn) who should win in each category. If you don’t donate, your vote is worth 1 point. If you donate, your vote is worth 1 point per USD you give. We’ll assume that you gave $5 unless you tell the host how much you donated, so you can keep it a secret if you wish. The artist that earns the most points wins in each category. The first place artists win 1,500 Turbine Points, second place wins 1,000 TP, and third place wins 500 TP.
You can find more info on the charity drive here: http://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?…cipantID=88974
Rules For Competitors:
- You can sign up by contacting Kiralynn on the day of the event. There are a limited number of slots available, so please register early.
- You have 5 minutes to recite a poem, 5 minutes to play a song with lyrics, or 7 minutes to tell a short story. You can include more than one song or poem if time permits. You may be disqualified if your performance runs over the time limit.
- If we have a large number of competitors, you will only be able to compete in one category.
- Songs must have lyrics. This is a competition of words, not music.
- You can recite your poem, lyrics or story in /say, /shout, or /Regional as you choose. (I recommend /Regional.)
- Performances should have an Autumn theme. This is a very broad theme that encompasses topics such as mystery, shorter days, windy weather, full moons, amber skies, falling leaves, acorns, feasting, apple cider, pumpkins, scarecrows, and the harvest. Be creative.
- Your performance must be PG-13. Please avoid “leet” speak, abbreviations, profanity, or material which is not suitable for teens.
- This competition is for solo artists. You can bring friends or multi-box to help with the performance, however, only the person reciting the lyrics, story, or poem will be given a prize code.
- You can tell your story any one of these five addresses — 3 Fountain Street; 3 and 4 Garden Street; 7 or 8 Chestnut Street. You can be indoors or in the yard, whichever is the appropriate setting for your performance.
- You can use a fancy outfit, emotes, held items, fireworks, and so forth to enhance your performance.
- You must be a good guest. Do not interrupt or interfere with the performance of other artists.
- You can donate money to Sapience’s Extra Life campaign and vote for yourself.
Suggestions For Competitors:
- Explore the event area ahead of time. Pick a good spot for your performance. There are many themed areas, including Rohan tents, spooky huorns, Autumn trees, campfires, Elvish relics, and even a Dwarvish home. Find a backdrop that matches the theme of your poem, song or story. The area decorations will be finalized by September 1.
- Use a plugin or other tool to recite your poem, lyrics, or short story. This will allow you to check spelling and grammar ahead of time. It also prevents the audience from waiting for you to type.
- Don’t post text faster than the audience can read it, or so slowly that they become bored. Read your own material as you go to help maintain a good pace.
- Wear an outfit that goes will with the theme of your performance. If friends are going to help you perform, consider matching outfits.
Fire and Water Festival
Saturday 4th October 2014: Eldar Server.
Isumaric Microfoot from Eldar would like me to share this information.
Here are the activities for the first edition of the Fire and Water Festival.
Fishing-contest
During the fishing-contest the contenders will have to catch as many edible fish and weed as they can within a set time (will depend on the amount of players entering)
The person who catches the most edible fish wins a prize and the person with the most weeds gets a prize as well.
Drinking-contest
This contest will have more or less the same rules as the drinking-contests on Laurelin which can be found at:https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?434540-Drinking-Contest-14-12-2011
This means that the last one sober wins the contest. The deductions for females etc. from Laurelin won’t be added though.
Chicken Hide-And-Seek
For this game one or more Event-Helpers will hide themselves in a set area. Depending on how many chickens we have the players will have to either find as many chickens as they can within a set time or in case of one chicken find it first.
Fashion Show
This fashion-show will have people showing of their outfits. The contest itself has 2 prize-categories. The first would be the overall best outfit. All players will automatically enter this one. The second category will be the vendor-bought outfits category. The winners of each category will be decided by a jury.
For this contest contenders can get up to 5 dyes by signing up at least 1 week ahead of time and mentioning which dyes they would like to have. Depending on the rarity of the dye people may or may not get all the dyes they asked for (most likely they’ll get all wanted ones though).
Music
This will be held at the end of the day. During this event we’ll provide music for the attendees. In case there are people interested in joining solo or with a band they can sign up until a week ahead of time.
Fireworks
As finisher of the festival we’ll set the sky on fire with some fireworks. Depending on whether we have enough helpers or not we’ll either launch the fireworks by ourselves or we’ll hand out fireworks to the crowd so we can all launch some (and in the process complete the corresponding deeds).
Currently the time-schedule is:
• 4 PM – 5 PM: Fishing Contest
• 5 PM – 6 PM: Drinking-Contest
• 6 PM- 7PM: Chicken Hide and Seek
• 7 PM – 8:30 PM: Fashion Show
• 8:30 PM – 10 PM: Music
• 10 PM: Fireworks
All these times are UK-time.
