Today was the first SHIELD run with Tosmii the dwarf through Moria. Frickinmuck on the official forums was generous enough to write up a summary of the questions and answers from the Twitch stream. Since last week we had such a massive information dump between the Developer Chat and Update 14 going live on Bullroarer, there wasn’t much new information given in this run. However I do want to highlight a few of the questions and answers.
Any nifty new cosmetics coming anytime soon?
There was actually a discussion about cosmetics earlier this morning. He won’t go into the details of what may or may not be coming.
As a lover of cosmetics this is quite intriguing to me! It’s hard to tell if this ‘discussion’ was something as predictable as making Ceremonial versions of the Erebor sets or is something more revolutionary along the lines of Lalia’s Market.
When will U14 be released live?
They haven’t announced a date for that yet. Not in the next couple of weeks, anyway, because they have at least one, maybe 2 more Bullroarer builds coming before then.
It’s good to get an idea of how many builds we can expect before Update 14 goes live. With such a big update though I hope they do at least two more builds rather than just one.
Question about Weatherstock problems
That problem was a deliberate attempt by some individuals to cause bad things to happen. That’s all he’s going to say about that.
We suspected that there was some not-so-nice motives at play when the server crashed. There were a lot of people putting down Rune-keeper rocks just before the crash.
What are the thoughts on making it possible for a hobbit to be a champion
They talk about expanding which races can be which classes fairly frequently, but that shouldn’t be taken as “it’s happening next week.” It’s something they discuss, but there are no current plans.
I find it interesting that this is something they discuss, I guess I always assumed that the racial class limitations were set in stone. Maybe one day we’ll see hobbit champions, dwarf wardens, elf captains and human rune-keepers!
How do devs do all their research to make a new zone
It’s not as complicated as we might think. They have people who are very well versed in the lore. They pretty much go off of the descriptions in the books as best they possibly can. They have members of the team who are going to Mythcon this year, a symposium for mythology fantasy writers at a local university, and they’re hosting a panel on taking the lore and world of Middle Earth and converting it into a game. This is probably the best question/answer in the run. It’s not surprising that they take descriptions directly from the books. However the fact that they will be hosting a panel at Mythcon is definitely interesting! If you’re near Norton, MA from August 8-11 you should go check it out.

Other than what they may consider “lore appropriate” I believe the only combination we might never see is a dwarf warden. I believe that has something to do with how dwarves are currently animated.
