LOTRO Players Adventures Episode 8
Brax’s pick of the week: I do not need to moderate my opinions that I express, do I…WHY? by Tsuhelm at tsuhelm.wordpress.com
Question of the Week
Question
Do escort quests suck?(Or; are they a good quest design mechanic and if not, why do developers continually make them?)
Escort quests in older zones have you follow the NPC; The newer areas generally have the NPC follow you. Is this better, worse or simply a different way of making escort quests?
Community Answers
Ranni says: 1. Yes. 2. Better they follow us just for frustrations sake. Especially when you can summon them back again.

Bloobwulf left a 5-star review on iTunes:
“I listen every week, even though I don’t always have time to play the game. You’re doing a great job finding what content each host can bring to the podcast. Most recently this was the addition of Ethelros’ side topics, which turn into main topics, and I agree are getting better each time, which I’m reluctant to say due to the pressure it will put on the poor guy. But come to think of it, I like the LI system, so we’ll prob never be on great terms anyway.
One thing I’d like to hear more of is all of your(s’es) in-game experiences. So like, “what you’ve been doing in LOTRO,” but with an emphasis on new things you saw or learned or appreciated, or maybe tips related to what you’re questing on (esp if it’s not all late content, but a mix of early-, middle-, late-level stuff).”

“Being an active part of a community (outside the game) can be a daunting proposition. But there are a lot of ways to participate. You can be a creator, contributor, collator, consumer, conspirator, curator, competitor, or any combination of those components.
I enjoy hanging out around the fringes and just mingling here and there. I did put together a guide on the forums that has been viewed something like 1.2 million times. But it has never made me feel authoritative (lots of people contributed) or like I have any power over the decisions players make.
At most, it has given me some notoriety. This is equal parts gratifying, terrifying, and humbling. I’ve written thousands of pages professionally in my lifetime, but this is the only time I can type a single word into Google and have something I wrote come up as the first result. (Thank goodness Turbine chose to make up a brand new word to name Hytbold!)
Still, I find it more rewarding to hang out in the Shire or Bree when I’m not busy and answer questions in the /advice channel. From looking at login server statistics, I’d estimate that more than 75% of new players quit the game in their first month.
Unless we can help build a community within the game, there’s little hope of it growing outside the game. That’s why I think LOTRO Players Adventures is such a brilliant bit of outreach. Not only do you expose potential players out here on the internet, but you also draw people in when they run across you in the game. Keep up the great work!”

“The REVIEW(?)blog got kinda weird and Ethelros took center stage in it. It is a pat on the back to a fellow Welsh Man doing great things in the LOTRO community and in no way should it be read negatively…
Overall I think the show is excellent and really opens up the discussion about the COMMUNITY and why we do it…
Oh and there is a POEM! (NOTE I updated as Ethelros was missing! :))

“Hail friends and oh wait, no I won’t steal Andang’s greetings :p Hello Lotro Players, past couple of weeks have been absolutely amazing. Joining you guys for lotro player adventures two weeks in a row was awesome( thank God for day light savings) Yes we didn’t kill the fornost shadow boss, but who cares.. It was about going beyond bossfights, wink Braxwolf.
Since I love raiding very much while still being casual, a couple of weeks ago I created my own kinship on Brandywine, called “Casual Raiders”. Leading people in raid almost daily has been great experience.
Also I am happy to announce that the poem I had been working on for a while is finally complete.
Look forward to joining you guys for lotro players adventures. As always excellent podcast and YouTube shows. Keep up the good work 🙂

(would love if Braxwolf can read this one)
Forever Alone
Alone on my own, in a dark cave,
Bound by My Precious, a worshiper, a slave,
A shadow, a wight, a wraith to be,
Remembering the past, my life is a memory,
Thinking of times gone, when I was free,
In the depths of a town with no tree,
Living in misery, I forgot my name,
Awaiting a savior who never came,
No friends here, no reason to live
Lost in my ways, nothing to give,
But then one day, Bagginses came,
Stole My Precious, played a game,
Lied to us, we hates it,
Ran from us, we hates it,
Now My Precious is forever gone,
Alone I am, Alone on my own.”

Hey again. Escort quests actually seem to be some of the hardest available! and on the landscape, challenge is in short supply recently. They also seem to unite the community in rage against them, so actually while admitting they are annoying, I think they serve a purpose. The purpose being giving us all something memorable to shout and scream about! its therapeutic really.
Only the hard escort quests are good, there’s a lot of easy ones later in the game eg. a few soldiers in mirkwood , some hobbits in enedwaith etc etc.
Escort quests if done well I can like but in LOTRO have yet to find any really that shine… blame stupid AI and even worse bad and illogical scripting…
I suppose the best I don’t mind redoing is in Ered Luin, the dwarf cook rescue from the spiders as he is not really in danger and actually helps with the spider slaying mayhem. Why he keeps going back here and getting stuck is beyond me… he refuses to be helped a second time, it must be the shame of getting stuck again…proud race those dwarves!
Great review of my review of your show…thanks 🙂
Ok you asked for RAW so I am in my heroic pose and I will commence to ROAR: ok go here for much funnier (if poor quality ROARING!):https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42WFxAtoM-g
