Appearance Options

There are many options when it comes to customizing the appearance of your warsteed. Currently, we are able to change the steeds hide type, hide color, mane and tail color, and outfit color. The outfit consists of five different pieces that you can mix and match to get the perfect look. These pieces are the halter, caparison, leggings, saddle and gear. Each piece is able to be independently dyed in color to your specification.

To change your steeds appearance, open the Mounted Combat Panel by clicking your steed’s icon when you are mounted or by pressing [Shift]+[M], then click the Appearance tab.

As you can see above, we have divided the Appearance tab into ten different parts and will explain each below.

  1. Head slot (Halters)
  2. Body slot (Caparisons)
  3. Legg slot
  4. Tail slot (different tails and coloring the mane and tail)
  5. Hide slot (different hides and coloring)
  6. Saddle slot
  7. Gear slot
  8. Wardrobe
  9. Saved Outfits
  10. Miscellaneous

The “outfit” your steed wears goes in slots 1-7 as can be seen in the center portion of the Appearance Panel. This includes all the horse-clothes and hide / tail customization items as well as color selection via the small round color button next to each colorable slot. Some items are not able to be dyed and will not display the color selector button.

Your wardrobe (all the items available for customization: armor/blankets, saddles, hides, etc.) is located on the left hand side of the Appearance Panel and is indicated by the #8 in the image above. Use the + and – buttons to expand or minimize each category to view what is available for you to use. These items can come from multiple places including quest rewards and the LOTRO Store.

On the right hand side at #9 is the Saved Outfits area, which functions much like your Outfit Panel for your character, where you can configure and swap multiple outfits.

Lastly, at the bottom is the Misc. area labeled #10, where you can toggle on/off the display of your character mounted in the panel image, and save or undo any changes you may have made to the selected outfit.

Horse-Clothes and Colors

You can purchase some outfit items and color packs from the LOTRO store for Turbine Points. Other packs and items may be found in mob-loot, quest and warband rewards and possibly other places.
