New Player Question

Question from a new Lore-Master: Other than cosmetics, what are the differences between all the animals and what’s each critter best at doing?

Week In LOTRO

Teriadwyn

  • LM Galebrilith progressed a little bit further with Volume 1 and did the worst session play ever…

Aerindys

  • Continued leveling my baby dwarf champion and found out the hard way that you can’t use a rally horn until you reach level 15.

Karvett

  • Leveling a Captain  – because Halberds
  • F2P journey continues slowly – Unlocked Riders of Rohan with in-game LP
  • Boredom time killer – grind LP on minstrel – being productive while wasting time.

Arathaert

  • Hunterizing stuff.

Sanswinda

  • Took a self-guided tour of Carn Dum to finish an exploration deed. Discovered many ways to die unexpectedly.
  • My minstrel leveled up and found herself stuck in red and orange mobs without armor, so she rode to find Snowborn and less treacherous armor.
  • Ran Court of Seregost at 115 and finished both T1 and T2, and got a better rune for my bow thanks to the awesome tank who joined Nina and I.

Maven

  • While listening to the Exploring LOTR class, I took Maevenn my 75 hobbit hunter Angmar, popped a deed boost, got all my Angmarim and the last page of one of my books, while reminiscing about the first time I was there and died and died and died.
  • Glordriel has both her swappies so heq\r T2 build is complete…until she finally scores Abyss Boss 2, when she can get more set armor…or until the next update comes out and the goal posts move.
  • Glordriel did more running through Lebennin making up for skipping it when she was on level. She’s just about to go with Jajax to kill things.

Pineleaf

  • My Gladden Lore-master finally entered Mirkwood
  • My Crickhollow warden received double landscape soldier tokens in hobbit presents. During the Amon Sul run, our RK’s protector pulled the gaunt man encounter. In Thangulhad, the Frigid Squall was even bouncier than usual.
  • The Saturday group headed into Northern Mirkwood.

Hello!

Thanks for addressing my question last week.  I hope someone knows the answer. As far as the comment “Don’t pay attention to the colors, you’re in a raid,” I counter with “How can I pay attention to the raid?  Tank? What? I need to know why the mini’s color is red, and the champ’s is blue!”

Until recently, I only played one character total.  In answer to Teriadywn’s question “Why?”, I’ll offer that I have a busy full time job and four young children.  They keep me busy! However, if LOTRO had been around back when I was playing Zork and later games like X-Com and Baldur’s Gate, I’m sure I would have had every possible combination of characters across all servers.

My account does list five characters now- two of them are mine, (115 Guard and 45 Captain).  Thee of my kids have characters attached to my account, ages 10, 8, and even 4. The four year old plays a Hobbit Hunter.  He just runs around the starter area shooting everything, laughing and smiling the whole way. :). His older sisters treat his character (and theirs too) like little dress-up dolls.  I’ve got them hooked on Tolkien already!

Thanks for the podcasts, keep up the good work.

Pete. (alts Hodwald and Theohaad)

Congratulations to all of you excellent hosts past and present at LOTRO Players News on your five year anniversary from someone who knows, (at least a little), what that takes! Can five years have passed so quickly?
It’s hard to believe that Pineleaf has made 256 straight episodes without ever missing one. You do record on Saturday nights, correct? No funerals? no weddings? no illness? No travel? No blackouts? no birthday parties even? Wow! His commitment is unquestioned! It kind of makes me wonder what would happen if he was not there. Hopefully we will never know. Cheers!
