Russian LOTRO Servers Closing June 1st

Mail.ru, the localized host for LOTRO’s Russian servers, has announced that the servers Mirkwood, Fornost and a 3rd are shutting down as of June 1st, citing a completed contract as the reason.  New accounts access was stopped on April 22. In order to allow existing players the opportunity to experience parts of the game that they have not been able to access yet, the Eyes and Guard Tavern was unlocked on the live server, allowing characters to quickly gain the levels, gear and traits needed for a last charge of glory.  Mail.ru also mentioned that bonuses would be available for LOTRO players that would like to transfer over to other games they host such as Allods Online, Perfect World and Dragon Nest.

Several Russian players asked questions about the server situation during Thursday’s live stream with Frelorn, however no information was forthcoming at the time.

Yesterday afternoon in the forums, Frelorn posted:

“First off, we want to thank those players from The RU servers who are loyal and wish to continue to play LOTRO and have decided to make the hop over to our servers.  You guys are awesome!  In the meantime we will have some information for RU folks next week, so stay tuned to the forums.”

I believe the closure for Russian servers is actually June 1, not May 1. I look forward to see the results of the Frelorn teaser, and hopefully there can be a fairly smooth transition for the Russian players coming over to Turbine servers (even just social-wise, since the data side of things sound a little iffy).

  3. An influx of LOTRO players must always be welcomed. I am excited by this as players willing to stick out LOTRO almost unsupported must all be pretty HARDCORE!

    Welcome: добро пожаловать 🙂
