Update 16 Landscape Preview Videos

Yesterday Turbine released the first build of the Update 16 Beta.

The new zone of Eastern Gondor includes three areas: Upper Lebennin, Lossarnach, and South Ithilien.

One interesting thing about the new area is that players have no way to get to South Ithilien without boat or stable travel.  This limitation is caused by Minas Tirith being closed off until a future update later this year.  The limitation seems kind of awkward but it is needed to keep the timelines correct and also give Turbine enough time to build the inside of Minas Tirith.

I would love to subscribe but for me the subscribe here button did not work.

Your comment that players can’t get to Ithilien without stable or boat travel isn’t actually correct – you can swim across at the place where the boat is – Ithilien is just a normal extension of the landscape, the boat is just there for the sake of convenience!

Everywhere I tried to swim had -2000 damage every couple seconds. They might have fixed it since I recorded these yesterday.
Either way it feels weird that we have to go off landscape to get to the other area.

If you swim directly across from where you get the boat to the other dock for the boat, there’s no -2000 damage – its just like swimming anywhere else in the game. I first crossed the river yesterday (Friday), and also saw you running around, and at that stage there was already no damage in that section of the water 🙂

The landscape is continuous, and you don’t have to leave it to get to Ithilien.

  3. FINALLY I’ve seen Minas Tirith! So awesome looking. I can’t wait to go there. Osgiliath looks great too. I’m a little disappointed in the continued use of the dawnless day, I was hoping it would be something similar to the dead marshes sky with clear blue sky near Minas Tirith but a big cloud extending over Osgiliath from Mordor. Very exciting.

I think its meant to be later, timewise, than the point at which we travelled to the Dead Marshes, when we first encounter the Dawnless Day. However, the Dawnless Day in Eastern Gondor is an improvement from Central Gondor, as although the darkness has no lifted, there is a greater sense of atmosphere from the red glow from the East.

      • I assume that once the ring is destroyed, we will be able to see Minas Tirith is all it’s glory (i.e. in the sunlight)…similar to how they phased parts of HD. I hope anyway.

  4. Looks like they chose the books in regards to the outer wall colour

Iam little confused. Is Osgiliath now also a new PVMP area? Or only for quests and instances?

They have said they plan to make Osgiliath a new PvMP area but not until a future update (it was never planned for this one). Osgiliath is also a PvE area and that is what is coming with this update.
