Facebook Screen Shot Weekly Contest.

Hullo Everyone!

LOTRO have begun a “Screen Shot of the Week” Contest on Facebook. With a 500TP prize for the selected winner.

It’s quite nice if you already have facebook and you don’t mind using their application.

The contest is very easy to enter and all enteries are visible, not only visible but we can all vote on our favourite screenies.

I really like this interaction with players. Many enteries are alreay entered so you can go along and view right now!

Here is a LINK to the gallery.

“Winners are announced early in the week.

  1. Sad that all non-Facebook users or those Facebook users that don’t want their RL info shared will be left out…

I love screenshot contests. But I think it’s a shame that the screenshot contest is Facebook-only. Seems very discouraging to folks who prefer to keep their Real Life and in-game identities separate. I’m definitely not using my personal Facebook for something like this. I suppose I could make a faux Facebook account for my character… but is it worth it?

I think it is sad that it is a facebook competition and not a more universal place which to post.
I am not savvy enough on these matters to be able to suggest an alternative but I understand your position Tom.

I also debated if to create a Facebook account for Lilikate, but it seems like so much bother. Lilikate does have her own twitter however 🙂

I think in the end I decided to post on my facebook account as I already have some Screen Shots on my FB.

I am cautious about having my private FB details being shared with people who only know me as Lilikate.

I already had an old facebook account separate from my (now disabled) personal account, so I was able to repurpose that for facebook things. One thing I would like to note is that the gallery link doesn’t show all of the entries at once, and scrolling through them all may not be something that very many people want to do. The entry submission does allow you to add an in-game name, which can make it easier to search for a submission (like Lilikate’s!) instead of having to go through the hundreds of pictures submitted. Also, the voting is anonymous (it prompts a comment, but you don’t have to post one for the vote to be tallied), and apparently you can vote for multiple submissions, so there’s that, I guess.

Thank you very much for this post, the only helpful one Google could find. I really hope SSG will get this info revised and re-posted so it will be simple for anyone to find.

To answer the question, I do not see any reason a real name should be required when all you’re getting is a 500 LP code. It’s not really enough to prevent determined “cheating.” (Hard to imagine that could even be effective, as it still would require high quality screenshots for every viable entry.) When you choose to submit an entry you waive pretty much any and all rights, so they’re not going to need your name for attribution or royalties either. It ought to be possible to enter and win and yet maintain as much separation between your in-game persona(s) and real-life identity as you consider prudent.

I think I will try entering sometimes using my Hobbit lass’ Facebook profile, but I won’t be including my real name. Worst case is I never win, a likely enough outcome for anyone, and best case I may win a code occasionally.
