A Look at the Helm’s Deep Pre-order Incentives

As usual, Turbine includes several incentive items with their expansion packages to entice us to pre-order them (or at least to make the purchase with cash rather than Turbine Points).

I generally purchase the top-tier of each expansion when it is made available for pre-order. I think of this as my annual contribution to the Turbine development fund (as I lifer, I have yet to purchase Turbine Points). I have thus created a video demonstrating the items that you will receive immediately when you pre-purchase the Helm’s Deep expansion.

This lines up with the items listed on the pre-purchase page.

Basic Edition Premium Edition
Title: “Enforcer of Helm” “Enforcer of Helm” and “Avenger of Helm”
1000 Turbine Points 2000 Turbine Points
Hauberk of the Hammerhand Full Hammerhand armor set (includes hauberk)
+10 quest log slots
Crystal of Rememberance (+1 legacy to an LI)
Token of Hornburg (+25 xp on monster kills) Shield of the Hammerhand (+25% on all xp to 85; scaling stats); this is a back item.
Steed of the Hammerhand Steed plus matching war steed cosmetics

Note the last two rows in each column (the xp booster and the steed) are only available if you pre-order.

Here is a still image of Pineleaf on the war steed using the complete Hammerhand war-steed cosmetic bundle.

The next shot shows the hauberk and gloves (the hauberk comes with both the base and premium editions, while the gloves are only part of the premium edition).

The final shot shows off the back item, which includes a backpack and a shield. Since it is a back item, you can either equip it for its stats (the stats on the item scales with you and will provide you with an XP bonus while you are wearing it) or cosmetically.

Which edition should you order? That would depend on how many of the items you want and your budget. I hope that this preview will help you in making your decision.

May your shield protect you and your spear never break,

Pineleaf Needles

  1. Pineleaf, do you know whether the +25% XP cloak stacks with the old up-to-level-75 pocket item, which is also +25%?

That is, prior to level 75, if I equip both will I get base XP * 1.25 * 1.25?

    • Following up, found this post which says:

The cloak STACKS with the pocket for 50% xp boost on kills and crafting, while also giving 25% on LIs, Mounted xp and quest completion.

    • Pineleaf /

All xp bonuses are additive rather than multiplicative. That means that when you have both active, you get +25% of the base for each for a total of +50%. The only exception I know of is for enhanced XP, which uses the word “double” rather than +100% and thus doubles the final result after all other bonuses are taken into account.

i did read somewhere that this item does cancel out the xp disabeler 🙁

The +25% from the Shield of the Hammerhand gets added last. This means that we get the +25% for it after the Stone of the Tortoise sets the value to 0. The net result is that you wind up getting 25% of the normal experience while wearing both the Shield of the Hammerhand and the Stone of the Tortoise. This compares to 125% if you only had the Shield or 0% if you only had the Stone.

So, wearing both the Shield and Stone will slow you down a bit but not completely halt experience.

  3. Man, I’m crazy about that shield! I wish I could justify spending the extra money for cosmetic frills.

  4. I have not placed my Pre Oder yet (will be doing this soon)

my question is, can you eqip that shield/cloak and then hide it? I really don’t want my Hunter running around with that on her back.. but do want the bonus 🙂

    • The cosmetic tab allows you to show/hide back, helmet, gloves, shoes, and shoulder gear.

  5. Lilikate Buggins. /

I had the chance to try on the full outfit! Before I was sure the fluff would not tempt me, now seeing Lilikate being able to pass as a lad of the West Fold I would really like the expansion!

  6. Thank you Pineleaf for all the work you put into this. Good stuff.

  7. Was wondering if is possible to buy both editions (basic and premium), in order to have all the gifts?
