Animal House: A Concert Report.

What I love most about Animal House is their sound… After a hard day battling the evil forces of middle earth there is nothing more soothing that hearing the  strumming tones of the harps and lutes, as they waft in through the window of my room at the prancing pony.

Generally after a short rest I find myself heading out into the forecourt to kick up my heels and join in with the other dancers.

I have a bias to admit too, I regularly attend performances by Animal House, I just adore the calming nature that their strings have on my spirit.

So let me introduce you to the band:

      Lastritesjfc on Drums

      Nightmagic on Flute, bagpipes.

     Wickedjfc on Theorbo

      Nightjasmine on Lute

      Nightchade on Harp

They began their set with Champagne Supernova, then led into a more upbeat Heart of Glass which really had the audience bouncing.

Black Hearted Woman was a much darker tune but grooved along quite nicely…..I had a little company for these early songs as Lanvoc from The Rock and a Hard Place danced a few numbers with me…../swoon!

We heard again a song about setting rain on fire… I may ask Lanvoc to teach me the words to this one, as I really like it! The crowd seemed to like it too.

Another bouncy number, I know the tune but can’t recall the title, everyone was on their toes.

As they were for the next number Some Nights by “Fun”.

We had another ninety minutes of pure musical magic.

Including A few of my favourite tunes:

I Will Always Love You- Beautiful flute! Such a romantic song.

All I Need – Starship

Torn- How could you not love this sad song about love lost.

Sunday Girl- Another audience favourite. Even the ponies in the stables were swishing tails to the beat.

Gotye – A popular melody by both bands and audience.

Don’t look back in Anger- Pipes were excellent on this one!

Purple Rain- My all time favourite! Love it, love it! Can you just play that again for me please?

Find Someone Like You-Another romantic number, thanks- so beautiful.

500 Pies!- What a laugh….All those PIES Yummie

Summer of ‘69 (TA)- Great way to play us out….

The concert drew to a close with more fireworks from the lovely Hobbit Ladies from Die Meisterbarden von Bree, and the hungry in our company headed to the common room in the Pony for a meal. Good to see support from other bands! Well done everyone!

Thankyou Animal House xxxx

Interview

You tell Holynight, ‘What prompted you to start a band?’
Holynight tells you, ‘Well we love music.’
You tell Holynight, ‘cool any event or inspiration ?’
Holynight tells you, ‘We started back to the game a little over a year ago, and we were playing around with the music a bit and Wicked loves it (me too) so we just started playing.’
Holynight tells you, ‘We often played out in the rain beside the pony, with no one there but just us enjoying our music.’
You tell Holynight, ‘I love that about your band.

You tell Holynight, ‘How did you decide what to call the band?’
Holynight tells you, ‘Well we named our Kin Animal House, and since Wicked and I are the kin…it just became our band name as well. hehe’
You tell Holynight, ‘Why that name tho?’
Holynight tells you, ‘Well it was after the movie originally. Animal House was a dorm house for the misfits. hehe’
You tell Holynight, ‘That was a naughty film!’
Holynight tells you, ‘hehe’

You tell Holynight, ‘Do you compose or transcribe your own music?’ ‘How about original Music?’
Holynight tells you, ‘Wicked does most of the music for our band, I have done a bit. He has orginal music as well as he transcribes. We don’t use other’s .abc files.’
Holynight tells you, ‘One of the orginals he wrote for the game is called Daylak’s lament. It is a wag wag song for the dance of man. Several songs we play he composed and wrote lyrics for. He is actually a “real life” musician.’

You tell Holynight, ‘What genre does your band like to play the most?’
Holynight tells you, ‘Hmmm Genre, well we play a wide variety.’

You tell Holynight, ‘I LOVE your Purple Rain!’
Holynight tells you, ‘hehe so does Wicked…it is his favourite! hehe’
You tell Holynight, ‘Mine too’

Holynight tells you, ‘We hold a concert every Saturday night at 9:30 server before the BBB play.’  Thats outside the Prancing Pony, Bree Town.

Holynight tells you, ‘Do you have a band outfit? describe what you where and why you chose it?’
Holynight tells you, ‘Well the gents usually match wearing black, and the girls cycle threw dresses when I get bored of the dress. hehe’

You tell Holynight, ‘Whats your favourite part of performing?’

Holynight tells you, ‘My favourite part of performing is hearing the music and making people happy, having fun.’

You tell Holynight, ‘If you could say one thing to encourage others to start playing music , what would it be?’
Holynight tells you, ‘oh and what would I say to encourage? Don’t do it for the attention, if you love music, just do it to play. And people will come. :)’

You tell Holynight, ‘Looking forward to saturday?’
Holynight tells you, ‘Yes but nervous!! hehe’
Holynight tells you, ‘It is the biggest deal!’
Holynight tells you, ‘Oh I was thinking about it yesterday….Wicked told me he was nervous before his concert and asked if I was before my first concert?’
You tell Holynight, ‘I  always get nervous’
Holynight tells you, ‘I thought about it and no I wasn’t. Not once.’
Holynight tells you, ‘Because, Wicked and I were so casual when we started. We didn’t have set times and just played when we felt like sharing music.’
Holynight tells you, ‘So there was no pressure.’
You tell Holynight, ‘True it was just like a normal set’
You tell Holynight, ‘which as we know are brilliant’
