Warsteed Color Pack Prices

There is a bit of an uproar from a number of players about the cost of the warsteed dye packs in the LOTRO Store, and with good reason.

In order for my Hunter’s Warsteed to look the way I want it, with the current prices, I would have to spend 1785 Turbine Points to get 3 color packs: one for the hide, one for the gear and one for the mane & tail. Supposing that this is the case for any given player, and they have a zero balance of TP, they would have to purchase the $29 Turbine Points package to get enough to buy the three colors.

Repeat that as many times as you have characters you want to have a customized Warsteed and you’re turning an already hefty fee into something that many people simply can’t afford.

What if I want more than one color combination and the packs I bought don’t have the colors I want? Another 1785 to get three more packs? Then let’s suppose you want more outfit slots for your steed, those cost points too.

I had initially planned on buying all the packs and at least two additional outfit slots for my steed if the price was right – but it’s not, and the more I think about this the more I am insulted by the price. I paid $70 USD for the top-of-the-line pre-order, for what is essentially fluff of little consequence, just to throw some extra support to Turbine to help fund further development of a game I love. I’ve purchased two premium steeds with real money converted to Turbine Points because I liked the items and figured I hadn’t thrown any money Turbine’s way in a while and I wanted to support them. To turn around and be forced to spend that much more money on Turbine Points to customize my steed, when customization of the steed was a selling point of the expansion, is a slap in the face.

There is a petition on the official game forums about this very issue, so please visit the thread and let your voice be heard if you are not happy with the insane price of a per character color pack!

If you don’t agree, or want to discuss – sound off in the comments here!

  1. I have signed this petition and put in my two cents recently. I haven’t yet bought anything warsteed-related, as I want to see if Turbine listens to its players first. Though… I can’t really see myself ever spending almost as much as I did for the expansion (I bought the $70 one, as well) just so I can have a colored steed on all of my characters.

  2. Just noticed tonight that my Steed of the Hunter cosmetics for my Warsteed are a washed color and not the same green as the Hunter mount itself has. In order to make my Warsteed match the Hunter Steed I paid nearly 2000 TP for, I have to spend another 595 TP to get the green color needed!? That is simply outrageous.

  3. I’m with you about the original colours/dyes not being included with the war-steed cosmetic appearance variants; Hunter’s Steed is dull, washed out colour, like the default dye of the war-steed itself.

We’ll see what LM’s steed looks like… *sigh*

100% behind you and everyone else in this. It’s an insane amount of money to spend, even though I agree that cosmetic fluff is what Store should be selling…

  4. Additionally we find out today that the extra wardrobe slots we were seeing was due to a bug with the store and they will be taken away from us. Goodbye slap in the face, hello kick to the groin.

Yep, that pretty much sums it up. I am not at all pleased with the current LOTRO store shenanigans, and that certainly didn’t do anything to endear them to me. I have no problem spending money on the game if I think I’m getting a good value, but this is anything but!
