LOTRO Academy: 24 – Music

LOTRO Academy
Achazia and Abergar, members of the popular LOTRO in-game band, The Shades, join Branick and Mysteri for an epic two hour episode about LOTRO’s unique Player Music System. Featuring a look back at Weatherstock 2011, an interview about the history of The Shades, and tons of information on how anyone can learn to play music in LOTRO, there was just too much of interest here to cut. We had a blast recording it and hope you enjoy listening to our biggest episode yet.

  • Learning Instruments
  • Manual Play
  • Playing an ABC

I’ve already said that I find your podcast to be a real pleasure for a newbie like me. It’s fun, it’s informative and I’m always impatient to listen to the next one. But that last one… WOW! That was a real gift for my anniversary. I love music so the theme was already a joy for me. And to discover The Shades and Achazia… Now I’m eager to get my keyboard out of it’s box, to plug it in my computer and to get back to composition. Thanks for this marvelous episode.

Very interesting episode – the music feature seems to open up a whole new world in LOTRO! I knew next to nothing about how this stuff works, so it was nice to hear an overview from such well-known and respected LOTRO musicians.

    Cheers!

    Hello!
Thank for having us as guests! It was really fun. I even got a few tips myself through the links that is in the show notes!

Keep up the good work 🙂

Another well done and informative episode! The music system in LOTRO is well worth highlighting, it’s one of the things that I think helps set LOTRO apart from other MMO’s. There’s more here than killing another mob hoping to get another drop!

I remember how amazed I was when I found out my hunter could learn to play the bagpipes and I discovered an abc file for a bagpipe version of ‘Amazing Grace’ that I could play in game. Seriously, how cool is that.

I had a great time running with Mysteri in-game; maybe we can get her an undying title someday, somewhere!

One word, Outstanding! That was a great podcast. Made me want to really get into the music again.

    Keep up the great work!

    Excellent episode.

I have one thing to add concerning the Moor Cowbell. In addition to getting it as a random drop, you can also gain one through the Curiosities vendor at a skirmish camp. They sell the Moor Cowbell for 300 skirmish marks and the skill for 1540 skirmish marks plus 3 Lefnuilan campaign marks.

The latter requirement for the skill is the tougher part as Lefnuilan campaign marks are generally only obtainable via the Rift skirmish. This means that if you are between 40 and 64, you will still need to find a friendly minstrel.

Well, not quite. One of the encounters in Attack at Dawn (Krampum) drops Lefnuilan rather than the proper marks. He can be a tough opponent for some classes, though, and he’s one of the encounters that only appears if you skip one of the side gates and thus face two counterattacks at the Central Gate.

Who else could bring skirmishes into the commentary of a music episode?
